The eternal battle between the Samsung Galaxy S4 series and the iPhone 5s continues, despite the fact that that the two companies are still collaborating on a number of prejects (with Apple A8 and iPad Mini 2 coming to mind). Nevertheless, iOS and Android are, and will always be rivals, and we don’t see a time coming when Samsung and Apple will be fans of one another, anytime soon.

As such, the ongoing iPhone 5S has to compete with whatever Samsung has to launch on the market, and in about a week from now, the Galaxy S5 will be the one to become Sammy’s pinnacle in its smartphone line-up.

We’ve already discussed the basic differences between the Samsung Galaxy S4 32gb and the iPhone 5S in terms of raw hardware specifications, so it’s now time to focus our attention on the design part of things. Join us below for the details.

The iPhone is and has always been considered a “premium smartphone”, unless we’re counting the 5C, which is debatable. In any case, the S4 is indeed a very “premium” device, boasting a fine crafted aluminum unibody and various design cues that attract the viewer’s eye, such as the camera rim and the diamond cut edge of the device.

Sadly, Samsung hasn’t really pushed the limits of build quality with its Galaxy S5, and although I’m certain the device is quite resilient – especially given its waterproof capabilities – Sammy has once again used a lot of plastic materials in building its latest flagship (hopefully, the Korean tech giant is saving the best for the rumored Galaxy F). The back panel is covered in a soft touch material, featuring a “bumpy” pattern similar to what you’d see on a first gen Nexus 7.

It’s also worth noting that both smartphones come with a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home / physical button, so there’s at least one design element that’s similar on both gadgets.

As for dimensions, the cheapest iPhone 5S uk is, as expected, the smaller device, given its 4.0 inch display. The gadget measures 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm, and weighs only 112 grams, making it one of the lightest smartphones on the market. The Galaxy S4 unlocked is a tad larger (even when compared with the SGS4), so it clocks in at 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm and 145 grams.
